areas where we need volunteers

It takes a village of people to save cat and kitten lives, and as a 100% volunteer organization we rely so much on the men and women who devote their time, skills, and effort to the cause. There are lots of different ways you can volunteer to help Cat Crusaders, but some of the primary areas that we need volunteers for are the following:

Kennelers are responsible for taking care of the cats and kittens that are being shown at Petsmart, cleaning the cages, refilling food/water/litter, and playing with the cats so that they get plenty of exercise and love! We provide all training and materials, the cats provide the mess. There are two different types of kenneling volunteers that we’re in need of: Weekday and Weekend.

Weekday Kenneling:

Our weekday kennelers come in on weekdays to perform kenneling duties for our cats that are staying the week at Petsmart. Weekday kenneling happens in the evening – you can arrive at the store anywhere between 5pm and 7:30pm to perform your kenneling duties, which can take anywhere between 1 and 2 hours depending on the number of cats there. Our weekday kennelers are usually comprised of adults and families with children over the age of 12.

Weekend Kenneling:

Weekend kenneling is exactly what it sounds like, kenneling on the weekends! Our weekend kennelers have shifts either on Saturday morning from 7:30am to 10:30 am or on Sunday morning from 9am to noon. Weekend kenneling is a great volunteer position for families with children over the age of 12.

Our Adoption Counselors are responsible for managing the teen volunteers, ensuring that the adoption center is in order, and (most importantly) facilitating adoptions, screening new families to help ensure they’ve made the right choice, and completing the adoption forms. If you love playing matchmaker, this will be right up your alley! There’s no formal experience needed, just a big heart, an outgoing personality, and a love for cats. We’ll provide extensive training, you bring a positive attitude and a desire to help homeless cats and kittens!

As with any non-profit, the scope of the work we’re able to do is completely dependent upon the donations we’re able to raise. Our fundraising team is crucial to ensuring that we’re able to raise the money necessary to save as many cats and kittens as possible! Fundraising makes everything else in the organization possible, but it’s always the last thing we have time for. We’re in need of someone with grant writing and fundraising event coordination experience. If this is a strength of yours, please consider utilizing your fundraising skills to help our organization! It’s one of the most rewarding volunteer positions because you’re able to see the fruits of your labors firsthand with every cat and kitten that is saved from euthanasia or rescued off the streets.

Teenage Volunteers

Teenage volunteers (age 15+) can assist with a variety of roles including adoptions, kenneling, cleaning, and inventory. All of our teen volunteers are given detailed training for the job they’re assigned, and we’re looking for the best and brightest! Prior experience handling animals is ideal. Time spent volunteering with Cat Crusaders can be applied to your Florida Bright Futures community service hours.

Other Volunteer Areas

Although Weekday/Weekend Kenneling, Adoptions, and Fundraising are three of our biggest areas of need, there are lots of other ways that you can volunteer to help our organization if your talents are quite suited to those positions! Some other volunteer areas include: Friday night cage set-up, laundry, data entry, medical team, website, social media, graphic design, and clerical work.
